We miss you already, our dear baby harp seal! The family just won’t be the same without you.

Delicious breakfast #2 January 20, 2009

Okay, so the creme brulee french toast I made for lunch this past Sunday is pretty damn good. But that’s a special meal I only make every once in a while when I get hold of a particularly nice loaf of artisan bread. (It isn’t healthy, either, lol, not with the butter caramel sauce on the bottom and all of the eggs and cream involved. Not to mention the generous splash of brandy. Yum, yum!)

Anyway, I like to have oatmeal for breakfast through the week. The kind you actually have to cook a while, not that “instant” or “quick” yukko stuff. Oatmeal is good for me, it tastes good, and it is filling. I don’t like sugar on it – I eat it plain, or with a handful of any kind of berries if I’ve got them around. Yesterday, though, I discovered a really delicious oatmeal topping. We had picked up some fruit blends up north. The one I found in the cupboard and tried yesterday was raspberry and cherry foster with raspberry chambord and a splash of dark Jamaican rum. It’s sooooo good. Do you suppose that a spoonful of that on my oatmeal negates all the healthiness? :)

Randomness January 19, 2009

I am listening to one of my favorite soundtracks ever – to a show I’ve never seen. Chess. One of my friends in high school had a poor cassette recording of it (it even cut off partway through one of the last few songs, lol) that I listened to a lot. Then, a few years ago, hubby bought me the two disk set. Finally got to hear the whole thing. :)

Princess has a friend over. I’m not sure when she’s going home, but they’re playing well and being quiet, so I don’t mind. (The girls didn’t have school today).

I’ve been spending a bit of time at Facebook lately. Several of my family members have made accounts recently, so I’ve been “adding friends” left and right, it seems like. That’s not a bad thing, though.

Let’s see – I also went to Classmates a couple of days ago, and saw something that made me really angry. One of the two men responsible for the death of my Little Sister made a page, and put a little blurb about himself, in which he complained that his career had been ruined by his time in jail. Cry me a river. My opinion is that he got off light – and what is more valuable, a life or a career? I really wanted to ask him that, and to ask if he had any remorse, but I have a feeling that the only real remorse he feels is that he messed up his own life, and I decided it wasn’t worth getting into it.

Eldest is going to AZ the end of the month to help her brother move into his new apartment. She’s flying down, and will drive back with her mother, at least as far as OH. There is talk about Eldest buying her mother’s car, but as she doesn’t have money for insurance, I’m not sure how that will go, and we just don’t have the money to help her right now, not with house taxes and insurance due. I’ve been trying to find a job, with no luck… gotta keep looking. Anyway, while we are glad to have her with us, it will be nice to have a little break. Once she gets a job and/or starts school, things will be better, when they get to a point of normalcy, you know? She’ll feel better then, too, because she’ll have more to do than sit around the house on her computer, and it will give her a chance to meet some people.

I’m also trying to find a new home for our puppy. Hubby is decidedly not a dog person, and as we’ve been having problems housebreaking her, I can see why he gets frustrated. She’s a good dog, other than that. Has a lovely, friendly and playful personality, and is just beautiful (she’s a Siberian Husky, with blue eyes). If we could just get her to not go to the bathroom in the house, he wouldn’t complain about her.

Oh – and Peanut informed me today that she was “born to do arts and crafts stuff!” Lol! Glad she can know that, at 6 years old. :)

Anyway, I guess that’s all for now. I need to go get dinner started. I’m making Moroccan chicken tonight, a family favorite. Yummy. ~ttfn!

Happy (very belated) New Year!! January 9, 2009

Well, hello there! Did everyone have a nice Christmas? I hope so. We did here.

I guess I’ve been busy since then, though not busy enough (as I look around at all of the holiday decor that still needs to be packed up). There has been a lot going on, anyway, it seems like.

I’m having a quiet morning this morning. Eldest is still in bed, so I’m taking advantage of that to listen to some music she wouldn’t prefer to listen to. It’s nice to have the tv be off for a change. As soon as I finish my breakfast, I’ll be back to job searching. Fun, fun, fun! Oh, that reminds me – would you please keep a good thought for hubby? He’s applied for a job (closer to home, higher pay) and is waiting to see if he can get an interview. I hope he can – if he can get in to talk to them, he’ll have a much better chance of getting the job.

Tomorrow I’m going to be getting a new fridge. Well, new to me, anyway. Another Craig’s List find. My old fridge (20 years old) isn’t working as reliably these days. The one I’m going to get is only 6 years old, and is in really good shape. Looks like brand new. Merry Christmas to me! (My dad gave us some money for Christmas. Unfortunately, it is going to take all of it to buy the fridge. I was hoping to be able to take care of a few other things we need for the house, like a new faucet for the bathroom sink upstairs, but that’s okay. A new fridge is good, too, and it is a good bargain.)

Allrighty – I’m off. (I know, you already knew that. ;) ) Have a good one!
